Our eyelids are gravity's prey quite early. Eyelids with excess skin or drooping make you look old, dull and tired. Sometimes they even limit your range of vision. With eyelid correction excess skin and fatty tissue of upper and lower eyelids are removed. Blepharoplasty is one of the easiest ways to get back your younger you.
An eyelid surgery takes between one and three hours. The surgeon makes an incision and removes the surplus of skin. Excess fat is removed as well – sometimes the surgeon also removes crow's feet.
Finally the cuts are sutured with precision stitches. The tiny scar is quasi invisible since it remains hidden in the natural fold of the eye.
With a surgery of the lower eyelid less skin has to be removed. The removal of the fatty tissue below the eyes is done via the mucous membrane on the inside of the eye. The necessary cuts don't have to be sutured so they don't cause any scars at all.
We recommend cooling your eyes with compresses. Please avoid physical exertion during the first days. When washing: omit face and eyelids.
Don't panic if:
Those side effects disappear after a few days. The stitches will be taken out after about six days. Visible scars are very rare.
The eyelid correction will be performed by an experienced surgeon and the risk of complications is reduced to a minimum, but no practitioner in the world can guarantee the success of his treatment and completely exclude any uncertainties. Just as in any other operation there is a risk of allergic reaction or an infection. Eyelid corrections, however, are among the most frequently performed aesthetic surgeries, hence the chance of an allergic reaction or an infection is not higher than 1-2%. Damaging of the eyes almost never occurs. It might happen that your skin is tightened too much - a minor correction will undo the damage.
The surgery is usually performed under local anaesthesia. Only a very elaborate operation on your eye demands general anaesthesia. Thus you are conscious during the surgery, but it goes without saying that the operation is totally pain free. If you prefer general anaesthesia – that's no problem!
